Shape What’s To Come

Branded content and loyalty platforms have always been a passion of mine. For years I worked for Unilever’s Life & Cooking website, and later co-created its succesor Yunomi. Naturally i’m always curious for new cases around.

Recently Levi’s launched their own community: “Shape Whats to Come”. A smart and creative translation of the CurveID: “Its all About Shape” campaign, in which the 100 year old brand re-invents itself.

The platform is “a place where women around the world connect with peers and mentors alike. It’s a place to persue your passion and channel it into something big. A new career, experience or even a cause. A community of women changing their worlds. Together, we share, inspire, grow.” A very promissing mission.

Levi’s has cleverly selected a group of ‘twenty-something’ ambassadors to help other young women shape their careers in the creative industry. You can find mentors to help you with entrepreneurship, education, film, photography, music and much more. I particularly like the profile format, that includes a picture of your ‘thinking spot’ and helps you track personal goals. At the moment, the site is still in beta. I’m curious to see if the new release will offer loyal buyers of the brand some extra’s too!

Last month, i literally stumbled on an amazing piece of art by Barbera Kruger on the streets of the Meatpacking District in New York. A highlight of my trip. I was happy to find out, she is also part of another show, a little closer to home. This time Kruger has created another large, type-based installation, entitled “Past / Present / Future” at The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

The piece is part of the “Taking Place” exhibition which aims to address the current condition of the gallery, which remains unfinished. Kruger’s newly-commissioned, site-specific piece has been situated in the Stedlijk’s largest room, known as the “hall of honor”, and uses provocative, emotionally charged statements to confront and shatter clichés and stereotypes.

Go see it before January 9, 2011.

The Magic of Don Draper

For months I’ve been addicted to the award winning Mad Men tv-series. Not only the fabulous 60’s atmosphere, sharp dialogues and extraordinary details glued me to the screen. Never ever have I been so intrigued by a tv character. John Hamm plays the part of creative director Don Draper to perfection. This man knows how to rock a suit. How to pitch a new slogan and has turned lighting a cigarette into an art form. When he speaks everybody listens. Don is a true artist, a family man and a feminist ahead of his time. And even when he cheats on his wife like going through his packet of Lucky Strikes, we still can’t get enough of him. So after finishing the last episode of season 4, i think there is only one way to keep this love affair alive.

For my birthday i was given this brilliant book that combines two of my favorite things: Music and making lists. Ever thought about the 20 albums you’d bring if you were leaving planet earth on a spaceship? Advice you follow from lyrics? Names for your fictious bands? Favorite one hit wonders or performers you’d tie the knot with? I say about time you cover you life in (play)lists!

Sofia Coppola is one of my favorite directors. After watching ‘The Virgin Suicides’ & ‘Lost in Translation’ at least a zillion times, i can’t wait to see her latest offering ‘Somewhere’.

This time Sofia takes us to the famous Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, where an hard living Hollywood actor gets a surprise visit from his 11 year old daughter. The trailer tells me this could be her best movie yet. Accompanied by a great soundtrack that includes an amazing acoustic version of the Strokes’ “Ill Try Anything Once”.
